Getting Started

SafePath is a demographic-aware navigation app that shows you how safe places are for people like you. Unlike traditional GPS apps that only focus on speed and traffic, SafePath provides personalized safety ratings based on real experiences from travelers who share your demographics — whether that's race, gender, LGBTQ+ identity, religion, disability status, or other factors.
Google Maps and Waze are great for getting from A to B quickly, but they don't answer questions like "Is this gas station safe for a Black family at night?" or "Will this hotel welcome LGBTQ+ guests?" SafePath fills this gap by:
  • Providing safety ratings tailored to YOUR demographic profile
  • Prioritizing lived experiences from similar travelers over generic crime statistics
  • Using AI to predict safety for locations without reviews yet
  • Offering routes optimized for safety, not just speed
Yes! SafePath's core features are completely free, including personalized safety ratings, community reviews, and basic route planning. Premium features like unlimited searches, route history, save favorite locations, statistical safety insights, enhanced filters are available in a premium subscription plan.
Compare Features
SafePath supports a wide range of demographic factors including:
  • Race and ethnicity
  • Gender identity
  • Sexual orientation (LGBTQ+)
  • Religion
  • Disability and accessibility needs
  • Age group
You choose which demographics to share, and you can update them anytime.
SafePath is currently available on iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android.

Safety Ratings & Reviews

SafePath uses a three-tier system to calculate safety ratings:
  • 60% User Reviews: Real experiences from travelers who match your demographic profile. We prioritize lived experiences because they're often more relevant than statistics.
  • 25% ML Patterns: Our AI analyzes patterns across locations to predict safety for areas with few reviews.
  • 15% Statistical Data: Official data is used as a baseline, but we recognize that hate crimes and discrimination are often underreported.
This approach ensures you get the most relevant, personalized safety information possible.
SafePath is a community-powered app, and we're growing every day! If you don't see reviews for your area, it means no one matching your demographic has reviewed those locations yet. You can help by:
  • Being the first to review places you visit
  • Inviting friends and family to join SafePath
  • Sharing SafePath in community groups
Even without reviews, our AI provides predictions based on similar locations and regional patterns.
To leave a review:
  • Search for or tap on any location on the map
  • Tap "Write a Review"
  • Rate your experience (1-5 stars)
  • Add details about your visit (optional but helpful!)
  • Submit your review
Your review will help other travelers like you make informed decisions!
Yes! Go to the reviewed location on the map (when you travel there again) and click the community tab. You can filter your reviews. From there, you can edit any review.
SafePath uses color-coded markers to show safety levels at a glance:
  • Green: Generally safe and welcoming for people like you
  • Yellow: Mixed experiences or limited data — exercise normal caution
  • Orange/Red: Reports of negative experiences for your demographic — consider alternatives
  • Gray: No data yet — be the first to review!

Troubleshooting

If SafePath can't find your location, this is a phone setting (not inside the SafePath app). Here's how to fix it:

📱 For iPhone (iOS):

  1. Open your iPhone's Settings app (the gray gear icon on your home screen)
  2. Scroll down and tap "SafePath" in the list of apps
  3. Tap "Location"
  4. Select "While Using the App" (this lets SafePath access your location when you're using it)
  5. Make sure "Precise Location" is turned ON (the toggle should be green)

Still not working? Make sure Location Services are on for your entire phone:

  1. Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services
  2. Make sure the toggle at the top is green (ON)

🤖 For Android:

  1. Open your phone's Settings app (usually a gear icon)
  2. Tap "Apps" or "Applications"
  3. Find and tap "SafePath" in the list
  4. Tap "Permissions"
  5. Tap "Location"
  6. Select "Allow only while using the app"

Still not working? Make sure Location is on for your entire phone:

  1. Swipe down from the top of your screen twice
  2. Look for the Location icon (looks like a pin or target)
  3. Tap it to turn it ON (it should be blue/highlighted)

If it's still not working: Close the SafePath app completely and open it again. On iPhone, swipe up from the bottom and swipe SafePath away. On Android, tap the square button and swipe SafePath away.

If you're not getting notifications from SafePath, you need to enable them in two places: your phone settings AND inside the SafePath app.

📱 Step 1: Turn on notifications on your iPhone (iOS):

  1. Open your iPhone's Settings app (the gray gear icon)
  2. Scroll down and tap "SafePath" in the list of apps
  3. Tap "Notifications"
  4. Turn ON "Allow Notifications" (the toggle should be green)
  5. Make sure "Lock Screen," "Notification Center," and "Banners" are all checked

🤖 Step 1: Turn on notifications on your Android phone:

  1. Open your phone's Settings app (gear icon)
  2. Tap "Apps" or "Applications"
  3. Find and tap "SafePath" in the list
  4. Tap "Notifications"
  5. Turn ON "Show notifications" (toggle should be blue/on)
  6. Make sure all notification categories are turned on

✅ Step 2: Choose which notifications you want (inside SafePath app):

  1. Open the SafePath app
  2. Tap your profile picture in the top right
  3. Tap "Settings"
  4. Tap "Notifications"
  5. Turn on the specific alerts you want to receive (safety alerts, location updates, etc.)

🔕 Step 3: Make sure Do Not Disturb is off:

iPhone: Swipe down from the top-right corner. Look for the moon icon 🌙. If it's purple/highlighted, tap it to turn it OFF.

Android: Swipe down from the top twice. Look for "Do Not Disturb" icon. If it's on, tap it to turn it OFF.

Still not working? Try closing the SafePath app completely, then signing out and signing back in. Sometimes this refreshes the notification connection.

Try these steps:
  • Update the app: Make sure you have the latest version from the App Store
  • Restart your device: A simple restart often fixes performance issues
  • Clear cache: Delete and reinstall the app (your account data is saved)
  • Free up storage: SafePath needs space to cache map data
If problems persist, please contact support with your device model and iOS version.
On the login screen, tap "Forgot Password?" and enter your email address. You'll receive a password reset link within a few minutes. Check your spam folder if you don't see it. The link expires after 24 hours.
If social login isn't working:
  • Make sure you're using the same Google/Apple account you originally signed up with
  • Check your internet connection
  • Try signing in with email instead (use "Forgot Password" if needed)
  • Update the SafePath app to the latest version
If you're still having trouble, contact support with the email address you used to sign up.
